Top 10 List for 2014

Well, as the year draws to a close I find myself thinking on the last 12 months. It's been a difficult year for many people I love. For some I wish I could turn back the clock, for others I wish I could speed it up. This is life.
I browsed some quotes regarding New Years and here are two I'd like to share:
An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. ~Bill Vaughan
~~~
And ye, who have met with Adversity's blast,
And been bow'd to the earth by its fury;
To whom the Twelve Months, that have recently pass'd
Were as harsh as a prejudiced jury -
Still, fill to the Future! and join in our chime,
The regrets of remembrance to cozen,
And having obtained a New Trial of Time,
Shout in hopes of a kindlier dozen.
~Thomas Hood
~~~
And now it is time for my annual Top 10 list. These are my favourite paintings from the past year. A very sincere thank you to everyone reading this and for the comments you may leave throughout the year. It means so much and keeps me going. I truly wish you a warm, secure, exciting 2015.

Peace and Love

Well, today is December 24th. Another Christmas Eve is upon us. Whatever you celebrate, I extend the warmest wishes of love and peace to you and all those you love! Because in my books, that's what it all boils down to.
I've been taking some time off to be with the ones I love but here are a few Christmas themed paintings from the past couple of years. Enjoy and thank you so much for being interested in what I do. It means a lot. xo, Kim

Entwined

Finished! This painting is called "Entwined." These are some black locust trees on our yard that twist and turn and tangle together. I have always adored them. Living sculptures.

New Arrival

So I had seen another artist post this (I can't remember who) and I thought it looked like a book I needed to read. It is called: ART/WORK: Everything You Need to Know (and Do) As You Pursue Your Art CareerIf I had my pick I'd stay in the studio all day long and not deal with the business stuff one iota. But  we all know that is completely unrealistic. Darn > : P How about you? What are your favourite art business books? What's the most important thing you've learned?

And...

what it looks like today.
I'm not sure if the progress shots are getting tiring or not. I know some people enjoy seeing works in progress and others are like "just post the darn thing when it's done!" : ) Anyway...tomorrow: midtones. Acrylic / 36"x36"

ARTLOVE

"Pastries" by John Azoni
It's been too long since I offered up a little "ARTLOVE". So just wondering, who is an artist, or more specifically a painting, you are loving right now? Of course, we could list hundreds but just choose one : ) I'm spotlighting "Pastries" by John Azoni. Isn't it lush?

Work in progress

So today I finished the drawing to the level I wanted and began blocking in the light areas. I am just loving the tangle of branches. At this stage I don't want to leave the studio but alas, I've got other responsibilities too ; ) Soon!

Sneak Peek

A detail of the tree painting I started today : )

In the five+ years I've been blogging, this may be the first time I've posted something truly non art-related. I saw this tonight and am sharing. I am warning you that it is horrific but also honest. Just maybe someone out there who drinks and drives will happen to watch this and who knows... it might happen to affect them in such a way that it will save somebody's life. Yep. Probably a long shot but you gotta try.
Tomorrow, back to my tree progress.
Peace : )

Want art? : )

So I'm getting back to the studio tomorrow to begin a large tree painting (feeling excited) but in the meantime, I wanted to show you a sample of some of my small paintings in case you might be looking to brighten your wall, or someone else's space. If there's anything you're interested in or would like me to send some pictures of, just ask! I deliver everywhere : )

Puffy cloud

Puffy cloud with a puffy chickadee. A common bird but I sure love their form!
And I'd like to invite you to the Christmas HandMade Market this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Honsberger Estate Winery in Jordan, Ontario. The market runs daily from 11-4 daily. If you enjoy buying local, this is the place to find fine artisans, beautiful craftsmanship, food, wine... all in one place. I will be offering my small paintings for these three days at a very special market price of $50. So if you've had your eye on something, now is the time to buy it! Shop, sip and savour!

Vintage Santa

This is a vintage, plastic Santa figurine. I think it was meant to put a light in his back so that he glowed. My nephew commented that he looked menacing. Maybe. Sometimes the older figures don't look quite as merry as the ones we currently see! I know it's early to see Christmas themed work but I am attending the HandMade Christmas Market this weekend and thought it would be nice to have a Santa painting : )

Barbara Muir's Opening + the Christmas HandMade Market!

Last night my daughter and I had the pleasure of attending the opening for Barbara Muir's latest show. It was such a treat to see Barbara's luscious new paintings in the flesh (so to speak : ). If you are not familiar with her work, please check out her blog. Her show is at Studio Vogue Gallery in Toronto and runs till November 29th. Check it out here.
Also, it's HandMade Market time! Definitely a seasonal highlight. Please consider this your personal invitation if you are in the area. I will have my small daily oil paintings for sale. Food, wine, and 80+ vendors will be at Honsberger Estate Winery in Jordan, Ontario (Canada).

"Breakfast in bed" by Canadian abstract artist Kimberly Rempel

"Breakfast in bed". Yep! This is the last progression shot. Same painting. Interesting how they evolve isn't it? Below is how it last looked when I shared. This piece is 30"x30" on gallery wrapped canvas. For further info, you can see SaatchiArt.
Below is how it would look in a room:
And in other things that make me happy: interesting colour drips on my studio floor.
Have a good day!

New Work in Progress

Uh-oh. Back to the drawing board. The bottom photo (which is how it looked last night) is looking better than what I did today. Hate it when that happens. I've got my work cut out for me tomorrow.
