"Showtime"

In between my regular studio paintings I have been working on a new series celebrating nightlife and joie de vivre. I've been feeling fed up with the news, you know? Some days you feel like it's all darkness, drear and the same old business over and over again. It can wear a person down. So one day this fall I had had it and decided to push myself to celebrate lightness, fun and maybe even frivolity :) I've adopted a new colour palette and vibe for this collection, so while I will carry on with regular work I will be throwing these into the mix too.
The first piece is "Showtime" and is acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas / 30"x40" / $1350.

I am very happy to share that the book I illustrated, Christmas at the Stable, The Animals Tell Their Stories, has been printed! This was a book I worked on over May and June. It was written by the lovely, talented Kim Funk. Thank you Kim for the opportunity to illustrate your story <3 span=""> If you would like to order a copy, click here.
And here are a couple of illustrations from the book!

Catch-up

A detail of a work in progress:
A studio visitor I had last week:
And a shot of my music delivery device :) Old school.
Summers are pretty jammed around here. This stage of my life : ) I wouldn't have it any other way but when school and the normal routine return in September I can really buckle down and get locked into my work. That's good too.

Still here!

Well, it's been a while :) Still here, but this is definitely the longest break from posting I've ever taken. I've been working away and a lot has been happening but I have gone through social media/posting fatigue I guess. However...I'm back in the saddle and here is the month in review.
1. I marked my 7th year Blogivesary last week. Seven years! Maybe I was due for a time-out.
2. I got a job illustrating a children's book. My dream. This is what I majored in all those years ago at art school (advertising was my minor). I have been planning, sketching, drawing roughs, drawing final roughs, transferring drawings and painting madly for the past few weeks. I received permission from the author to share some of the finished illustrations here so here is my first one:
3. I sold a few paintings this month. Always good for the soul (and paying bills :) Here they are:
 All In / SOLD
 Cosmos with lemons / SOLD
 Spring bouquet / SOLD

And that's about it for today. Thanks for reading!
Oh - one more thing. There are a lot of things in the news lately that have crushed our hearts. I just found this bit of writing and would like to share. Take care everyone!

We make our lives out of chaos and hope. And love.

Dreams of You

A dear friend of mine asked me to paint a portrait of her as a special gift for her husband. As you may know, I haven't done figures in years! It really stretched my painting muscles. I called on a few painting friends for critiques and advice along the way, and this was the end result. I'm happy to report he loved it
